Design

The iPhone 13 Pro’s closest cousin is undoubtedly the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. Both smartphones feature the same aspect ratio of 18.5:9. On the front, both phones feature a 6.5-inch display, though the iPhone’s display has higher resolution and the Note 9’s is marginally smaller. Both phones have a display-to-body ratio of 89.2%. Both phones also have a similar camera setup. The iPhone has a dual-lens 12MP camera system on the back with a telephoto lens, while the Note 9 has a single-lens 12MP camera system on the back. Both phones have a secondary 2MP depth sensor.

When it comes to design, the iPhone 13 Pro is certainly the more minimalist phone. The iPhone is much more refined and less experimental than the Note 9. It sports a more traditional back with a glass panel.

Storage

iPhone 13 Plus comes in two storage options: 64GB and 256GB. iPhone 13’s screen size is the same as the iPhone X, though its body size is smaller.

Both models support iOS 12 and will ship with iOS 12.1.3, along with updated gesture and haptic-based controls.

Battery

Battery life seems like a given. It’s always going to be the same.

In general, I didn’t think that the battery was a massive upgrade from the iPhone XS. It’s great, don’t get me wrong, but I was expecting something more. The new ‘battery health’ feature has a bit to do with it. It’ll let you know how bad your battery is, and a cheaper one should last longer. I tested it and it’s definitely possible. However, Apple may have decided that putting a bigger battery in should just be a given — at this point it would be quite a stretch to expect less than 30% after 3.5 hours of use.

The good news is that it feels like a lot of the stuff that Apple has been doing is probably going to eventually pay off with the battery in the iPhone XS. If not the XS, definitely the XR.

The report has been created in collaboration with Juhu-based IIM-Ahmedabad students. This is an Indian first and the research was made possible by an Indiegogo campaign which was founded by Bangalore based businessman Akshay Parashar. In addition to this, the iPhone 13 Pro campaign was supported by iFixit’s best iPhone repair specialist Caleb Wiseblood who came all the way from Australia to guide the students on proper repair of the device.

Camera

What’s new with the iPhone 13 Pro?

The iPhone 13 Pro is the ‘best’ iPhone camera ever. The 7nm A12 Bionic processor makes the camera faster and more responsive than any other iPhone. You can take portrait mode shots without a separate camera, and that’s possible because of the A12 Bionic chip. There are now dual cameras on the back, but one is a telephoto lens, and you don’t need to switch. You can tap on the screen to change the focus point or to change the aperture on the other camera. I was surprised by this, because I didn’t think a portrait mode would work with a telephoto lens.

The second camera has a wide-angle lens. When you take a landscape or an image close up, the two cameras work in tandem to give you the best picture. There’s a new tool in the camera too — a pro mode.

Conclusion

After using the iPhone 13, and iPhone 13 Pro for a few days, I am impressed by Apple’s latest offering. While the other competitors, like Galaxy S9, and OnePlus 6 are very impressive smartphones, the new iPhones are also pretty impressive. The iPhone Xs Max also offers a slightly better experience over the iPhone X. Apple also still doesn’t have a true competitor to the OnePlus 6, or even to the Galaxy Note 9. So, you have your choice between the iPhone Xs Max, iPhone Xs, and the iPhone 13 Pro. If you like the iPhone Xs Max, or if you are looking to get a new iPhone but with a larger display, the iPhone 13 Pro is the perfect choice for you.
